    Increased heart rate from anxiety?

I went to the doctor today because of my cough, which is from a viral respiratory infection... ew >.<
When they checked my vital signs they said my heart rate/pulse was a little high. I hate going to the doctor and I admit that I was panicking a bit. I was breathing heavily also when they were checking me. Can anxiety increase your heart rate? If not, I'd like to get that checked out as well...

Yes, it's one of my main symptoms. Beta blockers can help.

It can. It is good to get it checked out and talk to the doctor even if it's from anxiety. As IOH said beta blockers will help.

    Thanks guys
My resting pulse rate is about 60, but when I'm anxious it can get up higher than 100, especially if I'm having a panic attack. Is that bad? A couple of times my mom has been afraid that I'm going to have a heart attack. I don't think that can actually happen from anxiety. Can it...?
I'm going to talk more about it with my primary care doctor and with my psychiatrist.
As for Beta blockers, my doctors say I can't take them because I have screwy blood pressure as it is and they don't want to mess with it. My family has a history with heart problems and blood pressure abnormalities.
But I think I'm going to get the heart rate thing checked out. Better to be safe than sorry...

100bpm is nothing to be worried about really, mine can go up to 180bpm when I am exercising. You can bring it down at time of high stress by taking it easy and watching your breathing. It is your blood pressure that you need to watch out for more than anything. 100bpm will not give you a heart attack

I take Atenolol to help with high pulse and blood pressure caused by anxiety. But the stuff makes me sweat. I mean really really sweat all the time mostly from my palms and forehead. But other places as well. I am going to try a different Beta Blocker and see if that makes a difference. If not, I can either quit the Beta Blockers all together or get something called Sweat Block. Supposedly it keeps you dry for up to 7 days. While it works well for keeping my pulse down. I also experience fatigue and get winded just moving short distances.
