I hate browsing reddit on mobile as it keeps trying to get you to download the reddit app. Also, you can't view nsfw material without the app.

My LinkedIn now seems to be full of software engineers deciding they are not going to work for hardcore Twitter and taking the 3 months severance, and then the non-engineers who don't seem to understand why the software engineers aren't grateful for the opportunity to work 72 hour weeks with no pay increase.

FYI, I would also take the 3 months severance and work elsewhere, there is a shortage of SWEs right now, not so hard to find work in 3 months.

Thinking on it, the layoffs and the way redundancy has been handled may be legal in the US, not so much here though.

There are different laws, different employment protections.

If you make someone redundant in the UK, for example, you have to have a consultation period, unions may end up getting involved and negotiate. There's notice periods, minimum of a week if you're a new employee, longer with increasing length of service.

You can't really just sack someone by email, not an instant "you won't be coming back", can't instantly just say "sign this by Thursday or be sacked." Again, notice periods, have to prove gross misconduct and refusing to do hardcore twitter isn't that.

Then there's the working time directive, legally, stating how long you can work per week, though you can sign those rights away.

He's going to end sued, the prospect union that seems to represent quite a few will no doubt, sue.

Employee protections are stronger on the continent.

What an idiot. Lesson to be learned? Check the law in other countries before you assume it is the same.

Then the realty thay there is a IT-worker shortage in UK. If you are in IT, have a UK/IE passport or other right to work, particularly if senior level - you will easily find work. And they will go elsewhere. The ones who seem to be staying are those on visas, tying them to job or be told to leave by the Home Office -though I suspect they are looking for a company to transfer to.

It remains to be seen if twitter survives. Perhaps he thinks he can run the company on visa workers and juniors desperate for a few years at big tech on the CV.

Also 1am code reviews? Number of people who think that's cool. Me? I'd tell work to bugger off at that hour. And I'm certainly not flying to the other side of the world at short notice.

Lol I just noticed this on tumblr (apparently you can keep buying them so you can have more than two):

    https://at.tumblr.com/thegirlwhoflie...e/qrzv6q2arj9s

GUYS the Important Blue Internet Checkmarks are gay and married actually

Edit: HOLY CRAP I'M IN THE ATLANTIC??? WHAT???

Hello all you wonderful people!! I'm so glad you like my gay checkmarks!! Have an amazing day, take care of yourselves, drink some water, etc!! <3 <3 <3
    https://64.media.tumblr.com/fe6ae2b6...11663a4d87.jpg

Not content to have destroyed the gaming industry in terms of quality, and the internet itself, by bringing the gambling model to both - technocapitalism reaches ever new heights of ridiculousness. We have NFT's and blue - not even purple - checkmarks. And non-fungible just makes me think of fungi which makes me think of bioluminescent fungi, mushroom facts and Zangarmarsh 'not cool bioluminescent fungi token.' Very uncool.

Completely unrelated. Although these 2 images are fanart (well I think it's fanart not 100% sure lol,) it's a pretty good example I think of why I tend to prefer the aesthetic of Western female video game characters over male (although the male characters in Western games get way more masc than this):

    https://64.media.tumblr.com/69d8b997...5bad4b157a.jpg

    https://64.media.tumblr.com/c389c1c9...ad11549dd4.jpg

Oh yeah and a bunch of guys here hate this tendency to have androgynous or less conventionally attractive female characters in games lol.

And it's so funny because Japanese video games have the reverse aesthetic where (almost) everyone is more feminine than the average (so the female characters are very feminine,) and some guys look closer to female Shepherd in the above fanart:

    https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...l_Leonhart.png

That being said, extending this past gaming the aesthetic of say manga/anime tends to depend a lot on the gaze the author is going for. Like stuff aimed at women often make all the male and female characters look closer to the above image but in stuff aimed at men female characters are more feminine/neotenic and the guys are sometimes more masculine but honestly just as often not. Either to create cross appeal or because Japan isn't that into physical masculinity in nerd culture. I think this has changed a bit in recent years though.

Still with Aloy from Horizon Dawn (mentioned in one of the above links) a lot of the complaining seemed to come about because she was made less feminine essentially and conventionally pretty in between game titles (not sure there's a significant difference.) Contrariwise Sephiroth seems to be more feminine now in the FFVII reboot (I don't think so at all. Not meaningfully, but I did see some discussion,) and very few people complained about that but I did see a little. I think it was mostly voice changes that people didn't like lol.

On a deeper more generalised level this is a part of what the suspended schizoposter Nick Land wannabe that Contrapoints retweeted or reposted is mad about

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FhKnuZxX...jpg&name=small

Oh yes he doesn't mention in that specific tweet. The other one where he expands on the 'nipponification of sexuality and eunuchs' He dislikes that/this ancient Greek revival thing. (I'm not keen on these Roman pillars popping up on houses around town either myself, they're too big for your front door. Too white/clean. OK it was just 2 I've seen so far, but that's 2 too many.) Also that Momus song bishounen is actually very culturally relevant lyrically lol not just some random video/song. The Japanese bishounen archetype is somewhat connected to the well I wouldn't connect it to one region really - eunuch one - only more of a focus on dying young (like sakura beauty/violence etc.) (Uh you know what no actually I forgot Adonis is a Western example.)

(That's not the whole thing he's mad about. The larger part is how commodified sexuality is over there. The reactionary stance on this topic is that some base norm is being manipulated and warped by culture and/or technology, ultimately leading to a lower rate of reproduction and heterosexual sex acts. We don't even have host cafes/bars/whatever but "god forbid you take our Hooters from us" - Nick Adams, A proud American. We actually only have one of those in Nottingham in the UK lol. And if we did have hosts cafes/bars whatever they'd just be for guys. I should say 'normies' we're not getting femboy hooters either straight-adj shitposters or goth ihop. Not that anyone thinks otherwise. 'Even in the meme it's on fire' Others will have to share 3 genderswapped images of Paul Dano's Riddler or something - a completely non specific example. =P I pulled out of nowhere. Nowhere being a few people's avatars on twitter - an Americanised Norse God. We are getting cat cafes though. Owning cats is a luxury cat lady stock character can't afford.)

It's sad that tweet isn't just nonsense to me honestly like it is to most. :') No I know exactly what he's getting at and I found the other tweet by searching his other name (someone included it in a 'best of' thread lol.)

When I say 'technocapitalism' this is like the soundtrack btw because there's always a soundtrack obviously. (I prefer the Akira music video you can find on YT, but that's probably more fucked up lol) Also this.

Lol, I was in Nottingham a month back, passed the hooters on the way back to the rail station and thought, "Huh?"

I mean, we're a different culture to the yanks here, but it does seem they get people going in for the novelty of it, not so much as a pub, lets be real, would struggle to ever compete. But does get a few hen dos. So, seems to have worked out.

Some American stuff seems to work out here, others don't. Seems we have more and more American chains popping up. Still remember the Chick-Fil-A saga though, speak of a chain that crashed here because of major cultural differences.

I saw someone from the US mention on twitter that they went on a trip with their dad to the UK and they ended up eating at Hooters lol. But yeah despite going to Nottingham a few times I've never seen that and never eaten there. I only recently decided to Google that out of curiosity because I assumed there were none here (but there are a lot of American chains here so it was possible,) and then noticed there was one in Nottingham. Not sure how long it's been there though. I haven't been to Nottingham since 2011/2012~

Elon Musk suggested he wants to bring monetised video to twitter:

Let’s see what happens when Twitter offers good video with higher compensation for creators …
I really need money, and I already make YT videos which is largely frowned upon culturally lol (not the content I make, but merely being a YouTuber,) and I have a twitter account for my YT channel where I post sporadically about my channel or fandom stuff, but there are some lines I won't cross. He's just too obnoxiously partisan. The only thing worse than billionaires and corporations is when they're in your face and working for them. Besides that it's a terrible platform and I don't expect that to change, my feelings on it likely won't. I had some positive associations with YouTube before it started getting politically annoying in the mid 2010's, and then later improved again. I can't say that for twitter.

From a creative standpoint it's useless. It's mostly good for venting and getting political and current event takes. I don't think people there have the attention span for long-form content either. People often won't read an article before commenting lol. It could possibly compete with tiktok as that also works for a similar attention span, and I still think Tumblr is a better platform for art/music/photos and creating new subcultures. Twitter is like a riot happening at an airport or some other liminal space, with a few fandom booths dotted around that are often besieged by the riot happening anyway.

It's impossible to be a billionaire troll with dark triad traits, associate your face with your platform, and then appeal to creative people on a site that wasn't really being used that way predominantly in the first place. Under capitalism everything is pretty much unethical to varying degrees. But do you know why Tumblr worked initially?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59L79VBslfc

Then it was bought by Yahoo and tumblr users weren't fans, lost them tons of money, and everyone started leaving after they banned porn and female nudity lol. I don't know who owns the platform now (a company called Automatic apparently, I guess they also own wordpress.) but Elon has to have his face attached to everything and be obnoxious/competitive so... I'm sure it will be a great place for cringe compilation videos and the like.

edit: Also I was thinking of how a musician I follow recently quit most social media (besides YouTube,) including twitter not purely because of Musk though. And how a few YouTubers I watch never made one in the first place, and how I've just seen that Trent Reznor has apparently left twitter lol or is planning to (and apparently Elon Musk and Jordan Peterson felt the need to react to that one.)

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor is planning to quit Twitter: "We don't need the arrogance of the billionaire class to feel like they can just come in and solve everything. Even without him involved, I just find that it has become such a toxic environment. For my mental health, I need to tune out. I don't feel good being there anymore."
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9kXx1J8C3I

I think this hurt him (can't blame him lol):

'The establishment' 'the world's richest billionaire' hmm.

More seriously some pos decided to shoot up a LGBTQ bar in Colorado around the time of trans day of remembrance to make a statement I guess (could be a coincidence because the guy is violent in general but the timing is sus,) 5 people were killed. That's why it's important to have low visibility/private spaces for [BEEP] people. Apparently he previously threatened his mum with bomb threats etc. They had to evacuate a bunch of buildings at the time.

Edit: Turns out the shooter was the grandson of GOP politician Randy Voepel.

Despite opening fire immediately upon entering the club, the chief said, the gunman’s rampage ended within a few minutes because witnesses overpowered him.

“At least two heroic people inside the club confronted and fought with the suspect and were able to stop the suspect,” Vasquez said. “We owe them a great debt of thanks.”

While Aldrich remains hospitalized, questions have emerged about a previous encounter with law enforcement – and whether anything could have been done to help prevent the bloodshed.

In June 2021, Aldrich was arrested in connection with a bomb threat that led to a standoff at his mother’s home, according to his mother’s former landlord and a news release from the local El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies called the suspect, but he “refused to comply with orders to surrender,” the release said, leading them to evacuate nearby homes.
The two law enforcement sources who said the suspect purchased the firearms also told CNN his arrest over a bomb threat would not have shown up in background checks because the case was never adjudicated, the charges were dropped, and the records were sealed. It is not clear what led to the sealing of the records, they said.
In 2019, Colorado passed a controversial red flag law that allows family members, a roommate, or law enforcement to petition a judge to temporality seize a person’s firearms if they are deemed a risk.

When asked why the red flag law wasn’t used in Aldrich’s case, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said it was “too early to make any decisions” about the case.
This article goes into more detail: https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...what-happened/

Cortes, who works at a downtown hotel and lives a few minutes up the road from Club Q with her wife and their 4-year-old son, was 19 when a gunman attacked Pulse, a nightclub in Orlando that attracted a large LGBTQ following. Back then, her mother, frightened for her lesbian daughter, asked her to stop going to Club Q.

“I was like ‘No, that’s more of a reason to go,’ ” Cortes recalled. “I’m not going to run around scared. I have a life, and I shouldn’t be afraid to show who I am.”

But now, she’s not sure she will ever return to the club after her friend the bartender was killed.

“He was what made Club Q,” Cortes said. “It’s never going to be the same. Even if they reopen, I don’t see myself going back.”
The pulse nightclub shooting was a lot more deadly. Numerous factors could have effected that but I think it helped that one of the guys at the club was a veteran.

"Miserable non-binary m&ms" are indeed all Fox News/Tucker deserve:

We are one day removed from a shooting at an LGBTQ club where five people are dead, and Tucker's first segment is him saying the LGBTQ "cult" is "sexualizing children."

Weeks ago, he told his viewers to "fight back" against the LGBTQ community "no matter what the law says."
That's why I don't have much sympathy for the guy in the post I deleted from yesterday who detransistioned and now has issues with people who like feminising guys, transformation fetishes etc (partly due to his previous relationship with someone who I think was abusive,) and more broadly dislikes the attempt from women to 'civilise men' culturally. His most recent substack entry is also written through a social darwinist/Nietzschean kind of lens and he has some tweet referring to related stuff (these things are obviously a big part of his ideological world view.)

But this experience (which is not that uncommon) has led me to consider the phenomenon at large, outside the realm of trans contagion.
You see women on the internet all the time, both on the far-right and the far-left, arguing that women’s role in life and love is to civilize men, to bring us to heel, to make us social and emotional creatures despite our perceived mechanical and violent nature. What these women don’t understand is that that machine-like and violent essence is still very much a part of our own social and emotional development, they just cannot understand it because they aren’t men and never will be.
The will to power exists in all living things, and all of life is a struggle against extinction. Life is violent and competitive, and it’s either conquer or be conquered.
I'm pretty aggressive myself and have occasional violent thoughts when pissed off and there's a point where the general response to men/masculinity gets obnoxious/excessive and also all the paternalistic sexism towards women that ironically comes from that... And general double standards from some feminists are irritating. But I despise this general honour culture/masc worldview and how it ultimately leads to violence and infuriating attitudes from the men into it all the same. Lol man I can't even be brief. This guy really ticked me off because he's adopted that very predictable manosphere/Nietzsche thing but at the same time he claims to have been a brainwashed victim and to an excessive degree at some points and it contradicts. But I suppose this is actually a social norm to place the responsibility for male sexuality on women. (he's also autogynephilic though claims to no longer be, and that it was a result of brainwashing etc.)

Had I not met my ex I likely wouldn't have ever transitioned. It was being surrounded by women who had this fetish that brainwashed me, and it was them leaving me that allowed me to question myself. It was not my own fetish I was indulging, and it took a long time to realize it.
(By fetish I'm assuming just people like his ex so things he brought up - into transformation, androgyny, homoerotica, women, being a guy in a romantic/sexual context.)

Someone else commenting on one of his tweets:

AGP shouldn’t be taken as an insult (although, certain groups do intend for it to be taken that way).

I’m confused though. In the past, did you not experience arousal to the thought of being a woman?
    His response:

As a result of grooming yes, but this was not a natural predilection that I gravitated towards; I wanted to destroy myself as a male first, the other feelings came later. As soon as I detransitioned, those other feelings dissipated. And yes, it should he an insult.
The way these people project. "You have AGP and GAMP." No, that's you. I dealt with whatever degeneracy I had, that's in the past now. You all are too weak to handle your own. Insufferable gnats.
So this conflicts with what he wrote in a blog post a year ago where he said he'd always been AGP (not just after meeting his ex,) that he felt it was biological for some people including himself, and that he'd probably always be AGP (but evidently not.)

And he has so many tweets demonising AGP basically and assuming people are into that due to trauma etc, that it's self destructive and antisocial. Also a tweet insulting a crossdresser/using slurs.

    This dramatic tweet:

Any AGP that says they can't be cured unless they have their fetish validated is a scourge & should be annihilated.
i still get pangs of it i suppose, but keeping my focus directed outward isn't that bad anymore bc im no longer afraid of it like i once was
I'm always blown away by the extreme reactions people have to what I see as a completely mundane sexual/romantic interest (I mean it's not something really 'out there' you know?) Obviously there's the insane external reaction to it from radfems, conservative men, conservative women, many people in society... But the weirdest part for me was reading more about guys with this sexual interest (being on the other side of it,) like they join the army and just have to go completely cold turkey and talk about it like an addiction and weakness etc. If they're into crossdressing they buy all these clothes, then get rid of them all deeply ashamed, then financially ruin themselves buying them again. Whatever happened to Ted Kachinski who also saw a therapist about that before having a complete meltdown about technology, they hate themselves completely (this is probably actually where my related dream before came from haha really.) This time stamp from a Contrapoints video for the next minute or so really is a great comparison and how they view some forms of sexuality. I mean the details of the characters gender/sexuality history are different they're an ex-lesbian who was also on testosterone at one point but it's consistent across populations to talk about sexuality that way. (this guy is also kind of pronatalist and reproduction oriented so also puts down homosexuality. He doesn't like the [BEEP] community in general because 'otherwise heterosexual people who should be focussed on reproduction are being distracted')

"As I walked away from the building afterwards," Kaczynski wrote in documents released today, "I felt disgusted about what my uncontrolled sexual cravings had almost led me to do. And I felt humiliated, and I violently hated the psychiatrist. Just then there came a major turning point in my life. Like a Phoenix, I burst from the ashes of my despair to a glorious new hope."
There's a definite sadistic component to some of my interests in transformation and other things, but also my interest in androgyny in general is completely unrelated. I just find certain presentation/physical traits attractive regardless. I also don't attach all that baggage to it that I think he does because it doesn't really have anything necessarily to do with 'civilising' it can do, but I can also just find a random feminised photo of someone attractive from time to time. Many fictional characters I've been attracted to are villains or problematic in numerous ways. I mean The Riddler is literally a focus point in this anti edgelord/manosphere video. wasn't really into him while watching that video (nor have I still bothered to watch this film,) but give him long hair and slightly feminised features and I'm on this train.

On the other hand, when you're violently opposed to the existence of my ingroup why should I (and others,) not want to destroy you? I mean yeah in fluffy ideal bunny world maybe we could peacefully coexist (it's annoying really that it seems impossible,) but I'm not overly fussed by you being henpecked when you're shooting people dead, advocating for fascist violence, or declaring us all degenerates who should disappear one way or another.

edit: so this is quite fitting considering the direction this post went in but the shooter has now said they're non-binary. Right wingers love this because they think this gets them off the hook (in spite of them simultaneously already having an explanation as to why some right wing person might want to do that lol 'it's because you all keep grooming and the people at the bar were groomers') because they're under the illusion that non-binary people can't be reactionaries. That being said I'm ambivalent about whether this is genuine or just a ploy to get out of a death sentence/to get a lighter sentence or the like. I guess they'll have to prove that in court. But this happens everytime like people talked about how the pulse nightclub shooter was on grindr, and said some other mass shooter was trans when they weren't. I've heard that Nasim Aghdam was a cis lesbian and separately that she's a trans woman. I don't think there's evidence for that. The I don't like Monday's girl who invented school shooting (probably not but it was back in the 70s) actually is a lesbian though.

I dunno y'all, maybe I'm alone in this but reissuing Goncharov (1973) on Blu Ray seems like such a cash grab.

That film was made for VHS, digitizing the footage for the reissue just -- well, it feels clinical in a way the original didn't.

I do like the bonus interview with Scorsese tho, interesting to hear his thoughts.
    Fake watch party:

my favorite thing this site does is forget its a social media site. like when everyone is surprised that people outside of tumblr know about goncharov
At some point Martin Scorsese's wikipedia page had to be locked to stop people adding it to his filmography. There are at least 383 fanfics on ao3 about the fake film. (I read somewhere there were 403 though I haven't bothered to log in right now and some might be set for registered users only.)

Neil Gaiman is like the only famous tumblr user (not really but yeah, he's quite active and there are barely any,) and I'm dying:

    https://64.media.tumblr.com/22d5970f...64faeaa44b.jpg

But the thing is he responded to so many asks:

    https://at.tumblr.com/shuttered-eyes...n/f16ze2cqhhsq

    https://www.tumblr.com/neil-gaiman

'no' 'no' 'you're better than this' 'just stop' 'please no more' 'is this truly the best use of your time?' 'think for yourselves' 'You don't have to do this.'

I'm getting about 20 Goncharov asks an hour right now. I answered a handful of them because, with all due respect, I want people to stop sending them now.
Those weren't all the Gonacharov asks. Those were about .5% of the Goncharov asks. I could post another couple of hundred. Everyone had the same idea and sent the same sort of asks in.

I'm glad you liked the star photos. I loved taking them. Except for the cold.
Please stay strong Mr Gaiman, we're all trying to survive this, too
Okay guys that’s the last straw. We have to stop posting about Goncharov now. We’ve upset Neil Gaiman. That’s going way too far. It feels like we’ve disappointed our dad.
This is something that can only really happen on tumblr or 4chan lol.

They did this years ago with a fake greek goddess Mesperyian too.

383-403~ fanfics for a fake film but I can't find any of the ships I'm looking for and there were only 30ish Jesus/Satan fanfics years ago. I see. Lol there are also more fanfics for this fake film than James Cameron's Avatar. There's loads of fanart too.

There's several news articles now too including the NY times but that's behind a paywall. I started reading this yahoo one and thought they were going to keep playing along but they dropped it around the fourth paragraph lol:

    https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/mar...122717486.html

Most of the media wants twitter to die now because they don't like Elon Musk so this is why they're writing about this lol:

As Twitter slowly burns down at the hands of its unfunny narcissist owner, OG blog site Tumblr is reminding everyone why we all used to love it.

Having to threaten to pull out of the flat purchase today.

Both sets of conveyenvers seem to be shit. Sellers is [BEEP] and takes weeks to answer enquiries, months to send over documentation. Mime take weeks to deal with stuff. Don't even get me started on the housing association.

But this is month 6. This is getting silly now. I have absolutley no patience left with the process. I'm at the point where I would much rather pull out of the purchase, and look elsewhere, and hopefully use a conveyencer who is less shit. I'd move, but that'd be back to the start and I do not have that time left, the mortgage is only good until February, and if I'd spending 6% interest, well, prices are now lower, my deposit is higher and there will be a larger LTV.

Feel sorry for the seller though.

I was suggested this video loads a while back but never bothered to watch it (or I did and forgot I don't know lol,) but.

lmfao the emo headlines. The Black Parade is a technically good album and appeals to a wider audience, but I personally prefer the first two and they're far edgier than the black parade.

I used to interpret their second album (Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge,) as some kind of romance album about two killers 'promise me that when I'm done you'll kill my enemies' but I think it's more like The Crow.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPMDRsH1YRU

...the story of a man and a woman who are separated by death in a gunfight and he goes to hell only to realize by the devil telling him that she's still alive. The devil says he can be with her again if he brings the devil the souls of a thousand evil men and the man agrees to do it, and so the devil hands him a gun. That was the idea behind the concept, the record ended up being much more about loss and real life than anything, so I would say it's a good split.
There's also a song (you know what they do to guys like us in prison,) with the lyrics 'my cellmates are killers they make me do pushups in drag'

This is a perfect example of how milquetoast but also oblivious a lot of the UK was back then. They engaged with their most mainstream single/music video and the fandom/aesthetics that came out of that as they reached popularity and still overreacted. I never wore makeup and just wore black goth and alternative aesthetics (among more colourful stuff sometimes,) and so many kids I was at school with still overreacted and thought of me as a Satan worshipper etc. Initially they called me a goth later an emo. And everything they don't like is a fucking cult lol.

There weren't many alternative kids in the entire school and at one point when I was 11ish before I really got into metal music this girl just declared to this guy who listened to metal music that I liked metal music (cause we're all the same lol. A YouTuber I was watching the other day mentioned that like people assumed all goths who listened to goth music were into metal as well,) and I listened to pop-punk and rock I don't think I'd even heard any SoaD yet at that age. Possibly some 80s metal songs, and this remix of a Deftones track I heard in primary school that I really liked from a video game which is alt-metal.

Aside from MCR I didn't really listen to many emo bands and they disowned that label anyway just like most of the original goth bands disowned goth. There were some adj bands like Alkaline Trio and some AFI songs I liked later on. (They're also pretty great live. I saw them supporting Deftones but might be interesting to see them at some point. Can't imagine they're going to play a lot of the older songs though like this.) Some Panic songs but they're very close to pop. Liked this album it's really just pop punk again. Oh there were some Funeral For a Friend tracks I liked too to a lesser extent (the only emo/post-hardcore band from the UK I was aware of I think back in the day.) Favourite pop-post-hardcore-adj album was def this. Most people didn't want to be emo because it was like 'lame goth.' Also the homophobic element as mentioned in the video. Tbh emo music is quite diverse and goes back to the 80s (post hardcore,) so what they were thinking of as emo (stuff like this,) was limited in the first place but.. That's another discussion.

I assume the focus specifically on emo was the higher concentration of female fans and because it's a 'darker genre.' Mostly people would freak out about it promoting self harm. The promoting bisexual thing tickles me because most of these musicians like Davey Havok and Gerard Way were either straight or very private/not open about their sexuality in the 2000s, despite rumours. Green Day have at least one song about bisexuality, they were equally huge/famous in the 2000s, lead singer was openly bisexual, the guitarist and lead singer would kiss on stage, masturbate on stage (with 14+ audiences in UK,) band members cross dressed in videos, and also a song about a dominatrix (actually I think two songs along those lines. On one track they actually hired someone to be sampled in the track.) I don't remember anyone really reacting to Green Day lol (and MCR supported them on one tour,) but maybe I just missed it. I'm pretty sure it's because their audience was more mixed and their image/music is a tad more masculine. Very clearly didn't care about female bisexuality either lol.

He is part of the Punk scene, and not Emo, but Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day has been openly bisexual since 1995, and I think people hardly ever talk about it because he was actually serious, and not fetishizing about it.
Lol the third comment I was just thinking along similar lines. But fans would talk about it, some of the media asked in interviews too in the 90s, and there's not really any material difference between him making out with a bunch of guys on stage and all the other female musicians (of various sexualities,) who kissed women on stage. There was no insane 'oh my god it's an evil androgynous bisexual death cult' reaction though.

Quote from some NPR thing about 'The Mexican emo wars'

"We're against these guys because they just got here and just their style. They don't have any ideology. Besides, they are all bisexual. We're all punks and anarchists here so we aren't homophobic but these guys make me sick."

'We aren't homophobic but we are biphobic' also the dislike of new stuff that's pretty common.

Emos in Egypt were also apparently seen as disciples of Satan and homosexual (I hadn't finished watching this video before writing most of this post lol.) In fairness Matt Skiba the lead singer of Alkaline Trio was a member of the church of Satan or something like that and I shitpost about Satan all the time now.

I actually think there were a bunch of emo bands that did have the same aesthetic (and also pop punk bands) just not anyone she's mentioned in the video (although MCR did.) So speaking of musicians with the aesthetic there was also this band with a lesbian singer:

OK well the video I was going to post is age restricted on YouTube because of self harm themes.. But anyway:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-b-t6RCvc

The haircut was the defining part anyway I had hair like that when I was 18 or something lol. This song was released later in 2010 or something though I think.

Hmm I think this version isn't age restricted and says sfw but yeah very obvious aesthetic:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJiGw5qXToI

This is a similar aesthetic as well (not emo but yeah. There were a lot of aesthetic overlaps between 2000s pop punk/punk and emo):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFuP9FXLF8Q

Screamo too (the guy singing clean vocals. Also this band are actually a Christian band lol):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxFiu5Yy2Os

    obviously:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsrEXwozK-Y

I'm being 'that guy' but yeah lol. I didn't really listen to Midwest emo but I think the fashion there was much more generic.

All coming back to me now lol:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XUBNc1jHqY

I didn't listen to this band (Aiden) I only discovered them in my twenties because the lead singer created a song for one of the Underworld soundtracks I think, but them too they were also obviously inspired by AFI's aesthetics. Jeffree Star is in this music video and also hung out with Davey Havok. Anyway the lead singer was accused of creating a sex cult a bunch of years ago after starting a solo career and disappeared (I mean by individual women obviously everything's a cult to the daily mail lol.) So in his case maybe (he's denied it though and I'm not a fan so I cba watching all the videos he's uploaded etc.)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyCznSvLWxA

On April 16, 2021, Control released a six-track album titled Sex Cult, Vol. 1.
That seems like a good idea.

She may even get to what I'm talking about I stopped watching the video when she brought up David Bowie and moved onto the 70s. Quite a few had the skinny jeans at least. Skinny jeans are the absolute worst. Not comfortable at all.

Edit: So I watched the whole video. To me Panic and Fallout Boy were really closer to pop rock (Panic weren't that different from The Killers which I think were considered 'post-punk revival,' their videos had similar aesthetic too but that was common at the time across genres. More repetitive sounding 'Girls who want boys. Who like boys to be girls. Who do boys like they're girls. Who do girls like they're boys' Oh it was overplayed and got so old.) And this is important because she doesn't seem to address in the video that this 'I'm a nerdy guy I'm better than the normies, choose me' attitude extended to female pop rock musicians too like Avril's song 'girlfriend' where in the music video there's this alternative girl chasing the more feminine/preppy(?) girl around and harassing her while trying to steal her boyfriend. Sk8er Boy's message is 'I have better taste because I picked the alternative guy, and now the other girl's stuck at home with a baby' Paramore another pop rock band that is often considered emo also had a song that was exactly the same thing with the genders reversed.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCyGvGEtOwc

Once again cringe and honestly the message is imo worse than 'I kissed a girl.' (I do like a bunch of Paramore and Avril Lavigne's music though.) I just think this video would be more complete if it addressed this it seems one sided in general. A lot of these musicians were if not Christian (like Paramore were Christian's,) then generally quite conservative. I think Avril Lavigne is a fairly conservative person in her personal life, I mean this in the cultural/personal sense not politically. So that was reflected in the themes of the music. Like Don't tell me. and being pressured to conform to mainstream female beauty standards. If Fall Out Boy are emo than I think you can include Avril lol and definitely Paramore.

Another big theme is intrasexual competition (and there was this interview, and he's really trying to start [BEEP] too, 'would you go on tour with Britney' 'you've got your band over there the boys got your back' 'aren't they hot?' 'I'll take that as a no' 'aren't they hot? They're my babies' Lol. Tbf Britney seems to struggle with being controlled by various people around her and most pop stars image is being manufactured externally to varying degrees. Esp everyone who worked with that Dr. Luke guy. Kesha's music now lol. Oh she has an interview with Alaska Thunderfuck I like this track a lot lol.

I don't watch drag performances etc shockingly because you'd think that's the entire LGBT+ community based on the media. Someone tries to tell you what jelly smack is. You wanna go to the patreon drag brunch? Sticks in my head (brunch a middle class American woman stock character pass time also isn't an experience I've had.) I live in a terrible infamous town far removed from these worlds and events, I only have ever really engaged voyeuristically peripheral to all (and this has felt true sometimes when attending an event in person, or hanging out with people. Concerts can sometimes help me feel connected to others but I'm always in danger of disappearing again as an external spectator, in a schizoid way. I guess others use drugs and I do wonder whether MDMA would change that as it seems to make people feel closer, but I use music.) But anyway I did like that track.

I always thought that Jack off Jill's sound kind of matched with the emo label well. Like it's considered goth riot grrrl music and they're more of a 90s band (last album released in 2000.) But it just sounds like what I'd imagine when reading the label and some of their lyrics reference self harm and other heavy themes, melodic while preserving heavyness. Political but emotional. Lead singer is bisexual too actually and I think some of the other members over the years were queer.

The video is playing into the idea that anger isn't an emotion though lol (which many men agree with because 'ew emotions'.) Like punk isn't emotional because it's angry and masculine? :') I have so many thoughts.

I saw this Terry Pratchett quote posted on twitter the other day and the person who tweeted it said something like 'this was the first time I heard the message that it was OK to be angry.'

“Genuine anger was one of the world’s great creative forces. But you had to learn how to control it. That didn’t mean you let it trickle away. It meant you dammed it, carefully, let it develop a working head, let it drown whole valleys of the mind and then, just when the whole structure was about to collapse, opened a tiny pipeline at the base and let the iron-hard stream of wrath power the turbines of revenge.”
I'm kind of irked that she didn't mention the riot grrrl genre and other stuff when talking about punk either lol. I know the overall point was to talk about 'bisexual chic' in the 00s but like. 'super macho environments and often violent which wasn't really inviting for most women' they were doing their own punk thing actually lol.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOCWma5vOiQ

Also ironically there's a direct link between it and eventually this song:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOGZEeklYDs

She's so hated but I always liked her vocals.

She does, however, enjoy the occasional tryst with other famous women. Linda Perry, who produced Love's 2004 solo album America's Sweetheart, enjoys taunting Love about these episodes. "She told me: 'You're not a top, you're a power bottom. Just own it. All this heterosexual stuff is nonsense.'" Love's most recent assignation happened last month. "I won't tell you who she is though, because she's public. She's a little bi, mostly lesbian. We took Molly [MDMA], but it didn't work. I still went on with the show though," she cracks.
At one point in the video when talking about Willow Smith's collab with Machine Gun Kelly on that emo girl song (oh dear that song lol, oh god, her other collab with siickbrain was better and he is a millennial so no excuse for him, but anyway,) she says 'female bisexuality had it's place and it wasn't really in emo music.' I've seen research papers that suggest the emo subculture was mostly for straight people in general. There are obviously [BEEP] people who were drawn to it though including the YouTuber Dan Howell who identified as bisexual as a teenager (now queer/gay.)

I don't think there was a subculture that attracted bisexual female fans specifically. In terms of bisexual/lesbian artists alt rock, grunge and punk seemed to have a few but most of that was in the 90s (Lol this is just forever associated with He Man for me now. It's like the Rick Roll song.) Wasn't much of a thing in the 2000s from what I saw. Just Dresden Dolls/Amanda Palmer Her solo work came out mostly in the 2010s. This video is still culturally relevant 10 years on. Maybe Emilie Autumn (I think a couple of members of her stage band were in a relationship at one point, her sexuality is more ambiguous again.) Riot grrl also didn't resonate across different racial groups obviously in the same way she mentions with emo (I mean most alternative genres pre-2010 were very white.) Some women preferred male led rock/metal.

While I was a teenager during the grunge and Riot Grrrl era, for some reason I was (at the time) more drawn to hyper-masculine, testosterone-saturated grunge and metal bands and was not that interested in what was happening on the other side of the scene.
The film shows snippets of footage of young white women in that era, saying that the riot grrrl was a scene in which they didn’t have to fight in the mosh pit, or have men sexualize them for being at a show. For me, I was in the mosh pit, getting bruised and punched because as an individual, not as a woman, I wanted to be where the action was and even back then I knew that allies, regardless of gender, were few and far between. So I was just me. I also remembered being more fearful of being assaulted because I was black than because I was a young woman. I would have almost begged to be seen as a woman back then, but my ethnicity trumped my gender.
She mentions Lady Gaga in the video and that's an interesting case because most of the other women never labelled their sexuality or identified as straight. However she's said a lot of things about her sexuality due to the intense scrutiny over the years, and generally it seems to be quite ambiguous. She's said she hasn't fallen in love with a woman, and isn't sure she's loved men either. That she mostly likes gay men and that she's had sex with women. It's not what people want female bisexuality to be. Then everyone decided she had to be a transsexual woman because of the large gay male demographic in her audience.

I'm too lazy to make a bisexual woman version of this video and I don't think I'm the ideal person to do it (being bi-gender which people find confusing, and not using labels for my sexuality,) hence this post.

YouTube is suggesting me lots of videos of older men now for whatever reason lol. 'I get a lot of young men on the channel from 17 to 35. They're in a place in their life and they don't have it figured out.' I'm feeling attacked. But obviously my life is a train wreck.

edit: Also just got suggested this and I'm incredibly early cool. They only have 4 subscribers including me, and most of their videos have 0 views.

    "Hi im Jay."

Crywank is that you? Oh no it isn't Crywank is Jay Clayton and this person is Jamie Dawson. That would have been so cool though. I'm going to pretend because they sound Northern too (pretty sure though it's confusing to hear over the Bay Area punk/ska riffs,) and I'm clearly a mastermind.
