New Species of Spider Makes Its Own Decoy to Fool Predators

"If you have arachnophobia, you may want to prepare yourself, because what you're about to read could totally creep you out. It is one of the coolest examples of self-defense ever seen in nature. It begins with the discovery of a new species of spider found at the Tambopata Research Center in the Amazon. What makes the spider so different is that it creates its own decoy spider to protect itself from predators.

The decoy is made of leaves, dead bug parts, and other scraps the arachnid finds. It places the decoy in its web and moves out of sight..."

    Fascinating. Here's another article: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/12/1...off-predators/

    The decoy:

“There are some species that will make a little ball of debris in their web, then they curl up in a ball themselves and look similar to it,” he explained. “So, if you look at a web and you’re a wasp or another spider and you see 10 balls, there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to get confused and attack the wrong one.”

A morning filled with 400 billion suns
The rising of the milky way"

We will one day venture to the stars" -Carl Sagan
