    Being anxious is exhausting :(

In order to recover from social anxiety I need to push myself to attend more social events, but these situations make me so, so, SO tired. Even with a good night's sleep, adequate food intake and lots of caffeine, my energy gets sapped so quickly that I just want to go home and lie down. This happened to me today so I just had to complain. How am I supposed to socialize more if I'm too wiped out to even think of things to talk about?

This is a good question to which I have no answer, but I understand what you are talking about. I once joined a Mom's group which was o.k., but I would get rather bored with all the discussions and just want to head home to sleep. Yet, some people were raring to go and stay socializing all night.

Hmm...is it anxiety or is it just that you get tired form social events? Although with SA, it's probably hard to work out.

There's nothing wrong with being the later. I'm one of them who's like that. It's called Introversion. We "recharge" from being alone and get exhausted from spending a long time around people. It doesn't mean we don't like people or socializing, we just need to take breaks at time from people to "recharge" alone.

Extraverts are the opposite. They recharge from being around other people, socializing, etc.

I've been battling depression and anxiety for the past two weeks, and it's awful. Just awful.

I have trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

Is it necessary for you to recover from social anxiety by pushing yourself to attend more social events? If that's what you want and think is best, fair enough. But if it does feel like you're pushing yourself and exhausting yourself doing it then maybe it's not the best idea right now.

You could be, as some have suggested, more introverted which means you recharge by spending more time with few people or on your own. And there's nothing wrong with that at all.

It could be that caffeine messes up your ability to relax and sleep properly and that's exhausting you. Worth checking that one out with your doctor.

If you feel like you want to socialise more but the effort of doing it exhausts you and you feel like you have to push yourself to do it then that's fine. It's simply how things are for you and there's certainly room to work on that and make some changes if you're not already doing so.

I'm right there with you Winters. It's draining as hell emotionally and even physically I ache.
