I've dabbled in 3D graphics and video editing but nothing significant, just low-level hobbyist experiments. I haven't been motivated to do much on either front for a while.

Experimenting is always a good thing. Its fun and thats how interesting ideas come to life (regardless of their level) : -) May I ask how come you stopped, what have you done, and what programs have you been using? because sometimes a good way to keep the interest going, is by getting yourself an audience (like in Youtube, or something) and combining between various programs to create something more elaborate. For example, lets say your using something in the lines of 3D-Studio Max, Final Cut and Adobe After Effects. With the proper directing of the scenery and its base elements, you can create something really cool, in a relatively short about of time, and make it seem semi-professional. And if you wanna take it even further (without spending a lot of money) you can go out and buy a cheap 1x4 green cloth, and experiment with realistic elements via Keylight. I could give you other examples if you would like.
I used 3DS Max for a bit a long time ago, but I've been using Blender inconsistently and very casually for the past several years. I usually end up starting a project with a fair amount of enthusiasm but I quickly lose my motivation and the project goes unfinished, often times before it has really even gotten off the ground. I'm not an artist, so most of what I've made has just been experimenting with new rendering features by doing little abstract test scenes or by doing some basic environments. Video editing has just been a few game footage montages with basic editing—hard cuts and fades, no compositing.

As for why I stopped, I don't know. I haven't been motivated to do much of anything that I used to do for a while.
