Whenever you mention moving to somewhere, people immediately bring up negatives

Instead of being happy for you that you're going somewhere you want to live and where you'll be happy, the first things they bring up are reasons why they would never want to live there or go there. Why do people do this? Are we no longer capable of just being happy for someone with the choices they've made for their lives?

For example, if you said you were going to New York City, the first thing these people would do is talk about how you'd have to be crazy to live somewhere so expensive with way too much traffic. They'd say the same thing if you were going to Los Angeles or Silicon Valley. I'd be happy for someone if they were going to NYC because that's where they wanted to be, and I'd just not comment on the cons because my friends wouldn't like that.

Unfortunately, some people seem to be incapable of seeing anything but the negatives. When this comes up in a conversation, like when you mention that you want to move somewhere and someone says something negative, maybe you could counteract it by saying something positive.
For example, if you brought up New York City and the other person complained about the traffic, you could say, "Yeah, but the architecture there is really nice/but the pizza places are great/but I really enjoy seeing Broadway shows there" or something that could turn the conversation in a more positive direction.
Hope that makes sense and was helpful

    "So I'm moving to Cornwall..."
"That's so far away! What if you get sick again?"
