The good thing about controversial opinion threads is that you can find out real quick who to put on your ignore list.

Yes, Ignore is useful, but a civil discussion where one person makes a factual statement and the other person has to listen and respond thoughtfully, in other words listen without an agenda and vise versa. Maybe some of us can learn and understand each other.
Or, we can ignore what we don't want to hear. You choose.
^ I've already had years of experience having discussions with certain kinds of people who hold certain opinions... And it's a waste of time. Certain opinions are usually emotion based, and you can't reason with that.
It sounds like instead of trying to understand their point of view, you are trying to change their mind. Once i learned not to try to change anyone's mind, but simply learn to understand their point of view it opened up a whole world for me.
~Peace~
^ No I don't strive to change anyone's mind anymore because I know their minds operate differently. So I usually just ignore them. I don't appreciate the subtext you have of trying to make me sound intolerant because I'm seemingly far more tolerant than you tbh.
I am pretty sure I do understand their viewpoint; their views are often driven by fear, anxiety, disgust, resentment and other emotions, and many have a robust disrespect for science and empathy problems. I'm not compatible with people like that. You should google 'neuroscience of politics'... It's interesting stuff.
