Does enabling FIPS for your Wifi connection limit the link speed or internet speed?

I don't know if it's just coincidence, but whenever my link speed slows down to 54 Mbps from 130 Mbps, it seems like it happens because I turned on FIPS. I do know that FIPS can slow down some components of your computer and increase security, but I wasn't sure about the internet speed.

Does anyone know much about these things?

I will preface this with the fact that I am not terribly knowledgeable on FIPS, but here's what I think.

It depends what enabling FIPS is actually doing on your router. From what I understand it's a very loose and general term, that basically forces your encryption to not be WEP, but I can't tell if it forces TKIP or AES, or both. Here's my checklist of what your settings should be to get the best speeds, if your devices support all of it.

    - Wireless N only (not mixed)
    - WPA2 Personal
    - AES encryption

That basically gets you a "pure" 802.11n experience and should stay as close to advertised speeds as possible.
