    Does anyone here practice mindfulness. What do you do? Do you find it of benefit?
    I have been looking into it. I think it will be thought in schools here soon.
    It does take a lot of effort but I have heard it is worth it too. I have been told I need a better way to relax, I might try this. Any thoughts?

    This is one of those subjects where I'm not too sure what it's all about; but when I read about it, I realize that I already do some of the stuff to stop negative thoughts by concentrating on the actual happening not all the imagined negative thoughts and emotions. There was this one educational course I found on-line that sort of gave a more objective view or less biased view of historical events. I keep thinking that it was titled mindfulness? It was interesting.

    the Benefits of Mindfulness
    Practising mindfulness helps you:
    to be fully present, here and now
    to experience unpleasant thoughts and feelings safely
    to become aware of what you’re avoiding
    to become more connected to yourself, to others and to the world around you
    to increase self-awareness
    to become less disturbed by and less reactive to unpleasant experiences
    to learn the distinction between you and your thoughts
    to have more direct contact with the world, rather than living through your thoughts
    to learn that everything changes; that thoughts and feelings come and go like the weather
    to have more balance, less emotional volatility
    to experience more calm and peacefulness
    to develop self-acceptance and self- compassion

    sometimes it is easier to understand something in terms of what it is not. Here are some examples of mindLESSness:
    Breaking things, spilling things, clumsiness, accidents because of carelessness, inattention or thinking about something else.

    i find meditation music helps with this concept or quiet time alone ...
    Failing to notice subtle or not-so-subtle feelings of physical discomfort, pain, tension etc.
    Forgetting someone’s name as soon as you hear it.
    Listening to someone with one ear while doing something else at the same time.
    Getting so focussed on goals that I lose touch with what I am doing right now.
    Getting lost in my thoughts and feelings.
    Being preoccupied with the future or the past.
    Eating without being aware of eating.
    Having periods of time where you have difficulty remembering the details of what happened – running on autopilot.
    Reacting emotionally in certain ways – feeling like an emotion just “came out of nowhere”.
    Daydreaming or thinking of other things when doing chores.
    Doing several things at once rather than focussing on one thing at a time.
    Distracting yourself with things like eating, alcohol, pornography, drugs, work.
    If you do some or even most of these things at times, then you are probably a normal member of the human race.

    Ok I think i get it. However, I think mindlessness can get you through a long boring day at a factory or something.

    I have a co-worker who practices it. She seems calm all the time.

    I'm more with merc . . . . mindlessness gets me through my day very often. Because if I actually thought about what I was doing, I'd live in a hole.

    I do, it works great for me. I use it to somewhat control my anxiety and help me relax.

    Definitely. It helps to treat others well when out and about, I think. I know I use it whenever I'm outside, to take in the fresh air and just enjoy the sensations. Inside I practice it to be fully present for conversations with people. I think everyone feels better when they know they're really getting 100% of our attention . I'm not sure how I learned it, but meditation certainly helped.
