    Are you double jointed?

There's a link between double jointedness and anxiety. I'm curious how many here may be double jointed. If you're not sure check the following diagram:

    104rho0.png

    Abstract reference: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20963520

    *Edit*
    I didn't set parameters:
    - mild = 0-2
    - moderate = 3-6
    - extremely = 7-9

In the morning I score 3-4 and during afternoon after my shower I can score 9 on that. I guess my joints are more stiff during the mornings.

Yes. I think it's easier to do standing, and just checking the mirror. See if your legs curve backwards a bit. Like an ostrich, lol.

I wonder if the responsible genes are related - I'm not double jointed at all, but my mum and brother are in the same one finger. There is also a lot of mental illness in my family, I believe, although only me and my mother are diagnosed. (I have GAD and depression, mum has schitzophrenia). I think a few of my family members might have personality disorders (they meet the criteria).

No, but my dad and younger brother are. My mom and I are not. So 50/50 in our immediate family anyhow as far as I know.

Do your dad and younger brother have anxiety?

Nope. I can do some weird [BEEP] with my arms when they're in a certain position, but I think it just looks odd because I'm bony.

You should take photos. I'm kind of curious now. You may have hypermobile shoulders or something.

So I checked with some people and I can confirm that I'm not special.
Other people seem to be able to do it, though said people are also family members. I don't know of anyone in my family who can do any of the things mentioned in your original post.

Omg... that first image... I tried to bend my thumb and index finger like that... definitely not double jointed LOL that hurt.

I sure am in both arms though. When I have them out straight, they look pretty freaky to a lot of people lol I never really noticed it much... thought it was normal, until a teacher in high school pointed out how "cool" it was. That's when I realized I was "different" haha.

I also look that the person in the chart thing too when bending down to touch their toes.

It's normal to lose mobility as you get older too. So a 15 year old who is hypermobile may be able to do the hand thing, but by 25 it may hurt too much.
