Dopamine levels that naturally decrease as we get older (+Testorone levels in males), quite possibly have nothing much else in there life after they've quit work to retire and so don't do much all day at the same time as being stuck in the house all day, and loneliness.

Life grinding us down without the time, hope, health, youth, and potential we once did to keep us buoyed. Working fulltime for years on end and still never being able to afford a home. All the deep-seated problems we buried in our younger years manifesting.
