    I'm reading more of this paper about Wuthering Heights (so spoilers):

    And I like these parts a lot:

    The cast-aside Catherine finds joy in the harsh heath just as the diminished Lilith finds solace by the desolate and demon-infested Red Sea. Both women find comfort in inhospitable landscapes because their wild spirits need space to rule and roam. The connection between the moors and Hell appears in Catherine's dream: "Heaven did not seem to be my home; and I broke my heart with weeping to come back to earth; and the angels were so angry that they flung me out, into the middle of the heath on the top of Wuthering Heights; where I woke sobbing for joy" (63). God and the cherubim block Lilith from Heaven, the angels toss Catherine back onto the moors, and Bronte brings Hell to Yorkshire.

    Bronte kills Catherine giving birth to Edgar Linton's daughter thus weakening Gilbert and Gubar's assertion that Catherine is the Eve of Bronte's Bible of Hell. Gilbert and Gubar argue that Catherine, by marrying Linton, falls into rather than from grace. Catherine rejects the Hell and the devil and accepts a place in Heaven with her Adam when she chooses to marry the decent Edgar Linton rather than "that devil Heathcliff" (216).12 No longer does Catherine roam the wild moors; she instead languishes under the "pure white ceiling bordered by gold" of Thrushcross Grange (38).
    Bronte uses Catherine's dream to foreshadow that Heaven will reject her. Gilbert and Gubar's argument falters here because the ultimate ascent would be for the motherless Catherine to fulfill her maternal mission and raise moral children in the heavenly Thrushcross Grange.13 Instead, Catherine dies without her dual spirit. Heathcliff understands that Catherine dies because she attempts to untether their souls

    Why did you betray your own heart, Cathy? I have not one word of comfort. You deserve this. You have killed yourself?You loved me--then what right had you to leave me? What right--answer me--for the poor fancy you felt for Linton? Because misery and degradation, and death, and nothing that God or Satan could inflict would have parted us, you, of your own will, did it?What kind of living will it be when you--oh, God! would you like to live with your soul in the grave? It is hard to forgive, and to look at those eyes, and feel those wasted hands?Kiss me again; and don't let me see your eyes! I forgive what you have done to me. I love my murderer-- but yours!     It is Catherine, and Catherine alone, who cuts Heathcliff from her soul. Catherine attempts to be a good wife just as Lilith attempts to be Adam's handmaiden, but she relinquishes her spirit in the process. The amputation is too much for her. Without the added strength of Heathcliff's soul, her body cannot bear harboring her daughter. Catherine dies in the golden Thrushcross Grange, away from her beloved hellish moors, but her spirit haunts the heath. The first generation fails to unite Lilith and Samael, so Bronte must act as the Blind Dragon and create a second generation to satisfy destiny

    There is zero indication that Catherine or Heathcliff have romantic, sexual chemistry. They aren't physically attracted to one another like Catherine is to Edgar Linton (the man she marries), and since she is pregnant and dies after giving birth, we, as readers, know Catherine has had sex.


    In fact, if you analyze this story from a historical lens (which is important since mores, morals, and day-to-day living was different), a modern audience might better understand that Victorian-era audiences considered the "opposites attract" rule to be the epitome of romantic love.


    The only reason we consider Wuthering Heights a romance is because of moody film adaptations and bad high school English teachers. So, I plead with you all, the betrothed, married, and stupid-in-love couples of the world, please stop using this quote to describe your relationship.

    It doesn't mean what you think.

    'Oh, the evil is that I am not jealous, is it?' cried Catherine. 'Well, I won't repeat my offer of a wife: it is as bad as offering Satan a lost soul.     I saw the quarrel had merely effected a closer intimacy--had broken the outworks of youthful timidity, and enabled them to forsake the disguise of friendship, and confess themselves lovers.

    In bed at Wuthering Heights, Lockwood finds three names etched into the bed frame: Catherine Linton, Catherine Earnshaw, and Catherine Heathcliff.

    Sex in Wuthering Heights

    I was told by a teacher that there were two different sex scenes or sex references in Wuthering Heights before chapter 21. This teacher has yet to tell our class what they are yet, I was wondering if anyone already knew what she might be talking about? I have yet to find them myself and I have searched multiple forums and articles online and none of them mention anything about two "sex scenes" before chapter 21.

    I'm pretty sure there isn't. Maybe your teacher just read fanfiction too.

    At the time they're teens, Cathy and Heathcliff often hang around together and some time they end up in such an old medieval bed which is a room in itself kind of. They are caught lying there with the doors closed by Hindley who in turn expells Heathcliff from the house if I remember rightly.

    Any minute now some little plonker is going to suggest that Heathcliff was gay.

    I'm sorry but this is stupid to me. Yes it's an unhealthy relationship and was very controversial for the time period. Most of the characters are also not really good people and also are basically mentally ill and physically abusive to other characters. But I don't get how you can argue there's no romantic chemistry...

    My reading of Wuthering Heights as a lesbian text is an argument based on probability. I interpret the doubling of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw as a projection of Emily Bronte's ambivalence about her sexual inversion and the narrative patterns of sameness and difference in the novel as a conflict between homo- and heterosexuality.
    But the doubling that is Catherine-Heathcliff is echoed throughout the novel in other forms of repetition and merging. One of the frequently identified patterns of Wuthering Heights is the movement toward sameness and the obliteration of difference. Furthermore, it is sameness in difference that evokes passion in the novel, reflecting homosexual rather than heterosexual intensity.

    Sameness is challenged by difference, however, when the Lintons enter the children's lives. Edgar Linton, who is to provide Catherine?s introduction to acceptable heterosexual love, is from the beginning associated with separation and difference. Heathcliff and Catherine watch the young Lintons quarrel in the living room of Thrushcross Grange through the barrier of a window, a window Heathcliff imagines shattering. Here Catherine is bitten by a dog in a scene replete with sexual imagery. Catherine stays several weeks at Thrushcross Grange, where she is transformed into a typical young lady. This is the beginning of Catherine?s denial of Heathcliff, of Emily Bronte's attempt to deny her sexual identity. When Catherine returns to the Heights, Heathcliff sees 'a bright, graceful damsel enter the house, instead of the rough-headed counterpart of himself, as he had expected'. Difference appears to have prevailed over sameness, cultural conformity over rebellion, heterosexuality over homosexuality. Heathcliff sickens in proportion to Catherine's growing friendship with Edgar Linton and their separation is marked by increasing violence. Heathcliff hurls a tureen of hot applesauce at Edgar; Catherine strikes both Nelly and Edgar; Hindley drops his son over the banister.

    Heathcliff is at his most sadistic, his most monstrous, in this heterosexual relationship with Isabella. Bronte's presentation of Heathcliff as monster reflects her effort to repudiate her sexual identity, an indication of the power of internalized homophobia.

    I have no idea what the context of this is like is it a quote from a TV show? A conversation she was having with someone? I dunno:

    I don't think ambivalence is lesbian because lesbian is something concrete. Also it's flattening a lot of stuff.


    Contrapoints once referred to what I think they're trying to get at in a patreon video as the 'genderfluid gaze' while also quoting from a book by Lucy Neville and some other stuff:

    It reminds me of a quote from The Second Sex where Beauvoir describes a dynamic where lesbians:

    I definitely have done this myself. In my gender presentation on YouTube I often will kind of lean into this paradoxical presentation of like a gay woman who is also somehow a gay man. In consuming media I'm drawn to relationships like Hannibal and Will, Louis and Lestat.

    I think part of it has to do with the usual guilt trip. Attraction to women often makes me feel like a predator and I feel like this is especially heightened because I'm a trans woman and there's all these kind of tropes floating around in the discourse. But I can kind of guiltlessly enjoy a predatory dynamic if it's between two men.

    Which is not to say I only identify as the predator, part of the appeal is that you can kind of shift identification between predator and prey.

    I think a mistake Contrapoints makes (I've said this before,) is to imply this is the preference of most women, and that most women are into slash fanfiction and also (not quoted,) twinks. Especially since she's mostly quoting bisexual women like Beauvoir, and bisexual women are more often writing slash fanfiction on AO3 at least according to surveys.


    I mean there's an entire genre:





    Honestly it's more poetic at this point to refer to it as pagan (I just found this quote on goodreads):

    This is really hilarious how have they not grasped that playing characters of a different genders in video games has been a thing for decades now? It's like when they were all freaking out about the olympics opening ceremony like it was still 1985:

    I think we have to keep things in perspective here. Like OK your kids played Minecraft and came out as trans but it could have been a lot worse. I played Tomb Raider (several games,) and inexplicably I am now British. Just imagine.

    I don't think this is how it works either since I usually preferred to play female video game characters (with some exceptions,) but still non-binary. Also there's survey data on this lol and 1 in 3 men prefer to play as female characters yet aren't trans mysterious:

    I don't think I've played a game besides The Sims with non-binary characters so I don't know what I'd prefer if it was an option. I mean my Runescape character uses male langauge for titles etc because you can pick between male and female. There's one gender neutral option too for this new thing where you can become a duke, duchess or dux. As much as I like words with x in dux just sounds funny. I do like ducks but just went with duke lol. It didn't sound right. Maybe I'll change it later because ducks. Oh and I usually have a female body in that game, but sometimes change to male if there's a certain outfit gender. I like the hair options more and the character was always female to start with so got used to that.


    On the other hand when I was writing as a teenager probably 80% of my characters were male also the characters I was reading about mostly male.

    I don't think this is just about the democrats and followers obvious animosity towards men. Policies like this simply aren't popular with a lot of women but are much more so with men:

    Genuine question:

    Does it bother you that you're genetics will be wiped out of the species?

    Like you are ending a line of millions of years of life reproducing to form what you are now and that chain of life from millions of years ago still lives on in you today but won't anymore after you.

    It's just fascinating that from an evolutionary perspective something happened to where evolution has stopped and certain groups in the species are prideful their genetics won?t exist anymore.

    Another genuine question:

    If someone created a biological weapon that changed certain groups DNA to cause them to no longer want to reproduce but it was unbeknownst to them. So they lived happy lives but never reproduced resulting in that groups genetics being killed off after a generation or so.

    How would you compare something like that to the holocaust or genocide?

    For example, if Hitler had the genetic engineering we have today and had a program unknown to the public that targeted Jewish people's DNA to result in them not wanting to have kids so he could erase them from existence without anyone noticing.

    I know it's kinda science fiction, but it's an interesting thought experiment of value structure that i find fascinating.

    Most people asking that question are attempting a form of coersion and to make an emotional argument to try and push a pro-reproductive viewpoint. So just no makes a lot of sense as a response.


    Also getting the feeling he might have certain viewpoints about race but that might just be based on the massive amount of ethno nationalist stuff I'm exposed to in 5 minutes on twitter most days. This is reddit so I'd have to adjust my lens.


    That's different from personal choice, which some women in the US have. I feel any forced anything is wrong. Your Hilter scenario could work, but I'm thinking The Handmaid's Tale is more accurate.

    I assume you see it as the Handsmaid tale analogy working more than the Hitler analogy because in Handsmaid tale it is about giving up personal choice, the only difference from the biological weapons theoretical is that handsmaid is from the perspective the personal choice not to have children. So they ultimately both deal with taking away women's personal choice, which is the real moral value that you feel should be protected.

    It's a form of bigotry used once again to try and coerce people to reproduce.

    I know this won't make people like me on this subreddit, but can we at least consider whether or not being more liberal just makes women less likely to be seen as marriage material by men?

    You know I don't even have a preference for trans women. I'm borderline asexual irl too. I'm just butthurt because I had a crush on a trans woman one time and I don't get romantically attracted to cis women really mostly sexually. Then I obviously don't get romantically attracted to trans women that often either. I just have a lot of hills I want to die on. It's the untreated mental health/probable ADHD obviously.

    Then this happened because there's discourse every week probably about the art work depicting trans women even when it's based on real people and the trans women are non-binary (not trans women):


    Art exists in the context of those works that came before it and no work exists in a vacuum.

    It's not that any individual portrayal of trans women with heavily masculinized features is bad, it's that it's often the ONLY way that we are ever depicted.


    The exception to this is when our bodies are portrayed in a sexual context, as fetish objects and not people.

    Even then half of the depictions will find some way to justify why it's not a trans woman even when it's somebody with a body identical to one (e.g. futa, femboy, etc)

    Screaming internally lol. If a trans woman gets bottom surgery is she cis? I guess so. Futa characters in the classic sense (from what I've read,) have both sets of genitals. Some femboys also have vaginas.


    Tbf I do think trans women are massively over fetishised/sexualised. And then in spite of that when asked most people in at least one research paper I looked at wouldn't date a trans woman.     Before transitioning, they basically almost always fell into one of two categories (but obviously there are straight and bisexual outliers)

    A tiny, pixie, ADHD lesbian who says that they want to transition. They often have hypermobile joints, autism spectrum disorder, and a multitude of other health issues. They look like a literal elf.

    A Helga, a big, thick, stocky, earthy woman with large breasts. They look like they would be a female dwarf in World of Warcraft. (Exaggeration, but that's the category that you would sort them in given the choice)

    Type 1 starts on testosterone and typically within 6 months, develops an attraction to men, sometimes, this becomes the dominant or only attraction. They go from being a lesbian to a gay man.

    Type 2 starts on testosterone and they just basically become a hornier person. They go from being a lesbian to a straight man.

    The accuracy of this phenomenon is greater than 90%. In fact I guarantee you people reading this will be able to identify their friends that fall into these categories.

    For many years I reported this, this phenomenon that I saw, but I had no mechanism to explain the why. [...] syndrome now elucidates the mechanism and offers an actual treatment.

    Since about 2010 there's been an explosion of crimes in the UK that fall into this 'gender fraud' classification with a cis women (?) who has sex with another cis women with a strap on without them knowing and then go to prison and get put on the sex offender's registry. Some of these are particuarly insane like one woman who asked another woman who was actually her friend irl to wear a blindfold around her which she agreed to, and then they had sex 10 times before she noticed anything. It requires some suspension of disbelief but according to text messages she really didn't know. So that was really weird.


    In a lot (but not all,) of these cases they're not trans men actually they're cis women who are reasonably feminine in their expression outside of this too. I believe their feminine presentation and lack of trans identity is relevant to the severity of how it's seen so I'm bringing it up. They start doing this as teenagers.

She could not explain why she had done it, insisting she was not transgender and considered herself straight.

    We can just let the kids figure everything out themselves. This is also something that's not a very obvious law. I don't think most people probably realised it was even illegal until recently.

    Ultimately, the jury decided that they could not be sure beyond all reasonable doubt that the complainant did not know Bilham was really a girl for each of their sexual encounters ---apart from that first kiss. Her conviction will serve as a warning to anyone tempted to pretend to be someone they are not.
    Most of the time it's legal though so I don't see how. This is the only form of lying anyone cares about.

    So in the end in this particular case the jury couldn't really prove that the victim didn't know about their sex after they confronted them about their suspicions before. It does seem very stupid not to confirm it in real life. You would think someone would do that. So she was only convicted of kissing her while she assumed she was a guy. She had poor vision and she asked her to take her glasses off. I have been kissed without my consent before at a party by a guy (in front of other people too,) which I did not enjoy but it didn't occur to me that I could make him go to prison for that tbh. Probably wouldn't have been able to either, because it doesn't have the gender aspect.

    I've spent a lot of time reading people's social media posts yes. It's also somewhat the same thing with amab non-binary people and sometimes other groups. They're often not trusted either by transfemme people, and are once again seen to be cis men trying to chase trans women and I think amab non-binary people are stereotyped as being rapists and predators to an even greater degree than afab non-binary people.

    ^ Also it looks like Edward Dutton worked on that paper so I'm also going to take that with a grain of salt unless it's replicated elsewhere. I can't go into an essay on him again.


    You can find other studies suggesting homosexual people have a higher IQ than heterosexuals too but the above study didn't find that. So that's all over the place too.


    Hypothetically any non-conforming group might have a higher rate of genetic mutation which can also cause above or below average intelligence since it's partly genetic. You'll probably find studies showing poly people have lower than average or higher than average IQ's too.


    It seems sex and gender sort of go out the window when you consider certain traits. So using that as an explanation for your fearmongering about trans women like they're simply equivalent to cis men is very dumb.


    Just like how there's oh god this study on the prison population in the UK (I looked through it once but I don't have a link atm,) which transphobes use to point out how the rate of violent crime committed by trans women is equivalent to cis men, what they don't point out is once again the same was true for trans men.

    It's also not their problem transparently. They've lumped a bunch of personality traits to a sexual preference. A bit like how there's a 'bisexual personality type' in research really. Even when you don't call yourself bisexual.

    As entertaining as Big Brother is to watch, going on that show would be an absolute nightmare for me. Honestly, being watched by cameras 24/7, being cut off from the outside world, not having a clue about whether you are liked or disliked just sounds horrific. (and the crowd is kinda brutal if you aren't liked, think a lot of us would struggle with leaving the house to being booed and having hate signs made about you.)

    tallahassee has this thing called the maglab which is a research facility in the woods outside town that houses the largest magnet in the entire world. when anything weird happens in town, everyone blames the magnet. it?s one of the things i miss most about living there, it was like living in an x-files episode. (not just because of the magnet but also because of the aliens in the woods behind the airport.)

    Never thought to try it before or nought much into it. But will say that almost overnight, have gone from having giant hive weals covering my arms, legs, back and hips, to only having a couple of tiny hive spots on my legs after doing acupuncture yesterday.

    And trialling multiple antihistamines hadnt helped much (tried Fexofendaine - got rid of the itching but hives still there. Chlorophenamine - just makes me sleepy. Cetirizine - not much use). Prednisolone steroids would get rid of then quickly but can't be on that for more than a week, and when that eventually wore off, back came the hives. Same with Elocon cream, bur can't use that for more than a few weeks.

    May this lack of hives continue. Perhaps the acupuncture guy was right and I do in fact, have fire in my blood.

    If anything, despite feeling a bit like a human pincushion, it was surprisingly relaxing. Didn't really hurt either tbh, could barely feel the needles.

    (It does suck a bit though that I have to avoid spicy food though. I made feta pasta last night and it was a bit of a shame that I couldn't add chilli flakes to it. It is nice, but just isn't the same without them.)

    I think being amab provides you with more opportunities to have like hobbies. You were allowed to explore more things as a kid generaly than like an afab kid. Some sort of like dating unfair advantage. If you date guys as a trans woman you'll be like 'oh yeah I read that comic' and they'll be like wow you read? You get like a weird unfair advantage with impressing men

    I'm going to have to disagree here when it comes to the previous two generations before then maybe. I think most afab people growing up during and after the 90s were not pushed in a feminine direction and if anything were subtly or not so subtly encouraged to be tomboys (but not too butch obviously or then you'd be 'ugly.') Like how Avril was compared to Britney in most videos in the early 2000s. There was this constant kind of 'it's so great that you're this tomboy which means you're obviously doing what you want to do and presenting how you want to present unlike these fake feminine girls' in the media:

I saw some people complaining about Avril on reddit recently for this song and I was like that was Pink (this isn't the first time someone has misremembered something about Avril that was Pink either lol someone else was doing that with some magazine cover recently and thought Avril had a kid when she doesn't. Maybe this is contributing to the clone conspiracy thing even more lol.)

    As well as her Barbie alter ego she also had like a male homosexual alter ego 'Roman,' it was hip hop music, and was very obviously not trad femme so they weren't having that either lol. I find this quite funny because I'm not sure I would have predicted they would hate Barbie by the 2020s back in the day. This happened around the same time as Gaga too of course.

    Of course this way of thinking in the Pink music videos didn't really reach my hometown for the most part, and it was more like The Breakfast Club where you get coerced into a makeover lol and everyone thinks you're weird if you have mental health issues/anxiety issues anyway obviously.

    That being said in spite of Western culture's cyclical ambivalent animosity towards afab femininity (and slut shaming of women, and generally shaming of sexuality) - you're still given much more freedom to be feminine and engage in non sexualised feminine interests than young boys are (like Pierbi said there's still lots of intolerance to that.)

    Most girls and women just adopt those interests because they are their preference. In fact in non Western cultures it is more common for women to adopt less feminine interests because they have less freedom. Gender differences in interests are exaggerated in cultures that have more freedom. Perhaps leading to some of the cultural issues we have now on social media.

    And they do this thing where they scapegoat the androgynous people (or other minority groups - there's a version of this that plays out with race as well,) and then the men like defend the women who act like damsels in distress and enjoy their benevolent sexism.

    I love being the villain in their sex game while they simultaenously complain about how we're all perverted.
