Israel/Palestine/That whole mess over there. Seriously.

Seriously. That. Not trying to start a flipping debate with a whole load of people throwing flames at each other...I just have a history essay I need to get done and need some viewpoints.

Seriously. Who's fault do you think it is? What do you think about this whole thing?

i think whatever norman finklestein thinks is good. forming ones own opinions is too hard. just find someone you like and trust that you have good feelings about (in my case that's norman finkelstein) and go with whatever they say. so if you have an essay you can listen to one of their lectures that may be uploaded to youtube (normal finkelstein has lots of those so he's good in that regard) or read what they've written (not any of their books but maybe interview transcripts or articles) and basically summarize the arguments that they make that you think you can find a way to weasel into your paper. because something else that's too hard is sequentially ordering ideas. that's why you have norman finkelstein do it for you who is a champ at that kind of thing (truly he's soooo smart and i'm astonished every time i listen to him in interviews or answering questions from the audience, though it also has to be said as well that it's the way in which he says things and the content of what he says that i'm drawn to, not to mention his personal qualities and how he engages in the debate over these issues).

you have to hear him speak to fully fall under his spell but the wikipedia is good for starting. it actually contains way more than it used to, it looks like it was seriously revamped since the last time i read it and not only that it mentions he's working on a forthcoming political memoir which is super exciting. i didn't know that and as much as i liked the idea of reading one of his books i was never going to, until now when i found out he's writing a memoir which is beyond awesome.

depends on yr perspective, imao its the British + USA who decided to create the state of Israel, without consulting the indigenous population as a recompense for the atrocities of ww2. i accept the Zionists had a historical claim on the land, but it was occupied, Put it this way, otherside how would u feel if you were thrown out of the uk and your home was given to some Romans, who ruled uk approx 2000 years ago. I ask the question is Israel truly a democracy or an apartheid system, based on religion. (look how Israeli Arabs are treated, citizens of the state of Israel).
