    Anxiety in the workplace

I hadn't thought about it much before today since I'd only had a few bad 'moments' whilst at my job in customer service, but today has been a very bad day and I was already panicky when I arrived due to an incident in the morning. It was the worst day so far.

I was wondering how those of you who work cope with having anxiety whilst at your job. Any tips on how to deal with it?

I don't really have any tips. That I can think of at least. But I just want you to know that I can totally relate to workplace anxiety. I was recently promoted to a shift manager. SCARY SCARY STUFF!

My workplace is where most of my anxiety happens so I've had to learn a few tricks to survive.

I get up and walk around.
I go outside the building for my lunch.............even if it's to eat in my car just to have down time.
    I take deep breaths.
I tell myself "You're ok." or "I can handle this."
I smile. It's amazing what a smile can do to your inside self. it gives me some kind of control. Also people smile back which eases my tension.
I sing. I repeat songs in my head over and over.
I focus on something really small like a pencil top for a few minutes, thus blocking out the rest of the planet.
I focus on children. They can be quite entertaining to watch.

I hope some of this helps.

Indeed it has helped! I'm out for my lunch break now, feels nice to just get out of the building.

Don't have any tips myself and I go through anxiety at work as well. I try to just jump in conversations here and there, and people don't seem to mind. They probably notice I'm pretty quiet, so it must be nice for a change when I speak lol

And yes, smiling does go a long way and asking "How are you?" if you haven't asked already during a particular day.

I'm an intern, but everyone treats me like I'm already a FT employee.. like I am one of them. And the only times I feel like totally left out is when my anxiety is at an all-time high, like recently. Caffeine sure helps me though. I never needed caffeine to stay awake and all that, but I've started getting it so I'm not all fuckin grouchy at the workplace, and it's helped a lot. Strangely, even though it's given me anxiety/panic attacks in the past, it hasn't the last few times. Maybe it's times I really need caffeine that it doesn't give that effect? Who knows, just thankful that caffeine's been doing what it's supposed to do.. and that's keeping me alert... and allowing me to be more relaxed and more talkative lol
