It is a bit weird. It was certainly relatively normal to explore stuff like that in science fiction in general, though maybe not on TV as much until further into the 90s. I mean Ursula K Le Guin's work The Left Hand of Darkness wasn't about LGBT people or aliens but explored gender and sexuality:

I'm sure they did explore this a bit in TNG although maybe it was a later series? I remember some episode where a character changed gender at one point (not Human,) and another character who was in love with them explained that they couldn't continue to reciprocate because essentially Humans weren't enligetened enough to see past gender but maybe one day would be or something like that.

If I google it it just comes up with an episode involving Riker but I swear it was a female character so I don't know. This doesn't sound like that episode either in general so clearly they did explore this a few times but just weren't willing to involve actual Human characters...

I want to know what that episode was though I don't think I imagined it but everything I search doesn't bring it up and I'm really sure it wasn't this one though it sounds interesting.

They might have intended it as an metaphor but in a very literal sense it's actually an agender asexual world where being male or female is considered wrong. And ironically that's how it would be taken today by conservatives who freak out about pronouns. So I guess it's aging well?

It's really going to bug me that I can't find the episode I'm thinking of lol but I cba to keep searching. Aside from knowing it wasn't part of the original series (which I never watched at all,) I can't say much about it with certainty or who the characters were involved were but I thought it might be a female character on TNG. This sounds similar but upon further research it doesn't seem to be this:

Geordi La Forge too already has some representational baggage, in his case that of disabled people.

There's Tasha Yar, but making her a lesbian or bisexual would be just a bit too stereotypical for a (no offense intended) rather butch-seeming lady, and in the real show she was Spoiler: killed off unceremoniously midway through the first season.

So? The repsentation of butch characters on TV is very slim and there's a reason stereotypes exist because they represent a group that's common. The part where she was Spoiler: killed off would make it fall into the common Spoiler: bury your gays trope though.

Deanna Troi being lesbian, or perhaps better yet, bisexual might have been the most obvious angle, but Betazoids (even half-Betazoids like her; for some reason they decided to make her half-human) are already stereotyped as being sensual.

Yeah OK I never really watched the show much besides a handful of episodes when I was a child and teenager and reruns came on TV but I think you probably could have made her and Tasha sapphic and then hooked them up. Or Beverly Crusher could have come out since it's kind of a common theme for older women who already have kids to come out as lesbians or bisexual like Elvira and Cynthia Nixon. This is in a hypothetical future that shouldn't care much too meaning some people would likely come out earlier although I think women coming out later is just as often because of sexual fluidity as concern about judgement.

I think that's also why they never wanted to cover the topic because it was impacted by politics of that time that wouldn't make much sense in universe and they probably knew it wouldn't age well.

I agree that Riker would never work as not straight though given it's a large part of his character.

I more took that to mean Humans generally can't avoid being superficial. There are bisexual people who also break up with their trans partners because they're not attracted to them anymore.

Also it's not just about physical appearence but because many trans people's voice changes in a way that you don't necessarily find attractive or they change a bunch of other stuff about themselves occasionally regarding interests and such (I think that's becoming less common these days but historically people would try to fit in a lot more.) Here's a good historical example:

It's genuinely one of those things where you have to lowkey hold their hand and teach them how to be a man but they love being "boys" for some reason. Gaming absolutely is male dominated when you talk about the biggest and most popular games. Fortnite, COD, nearly all male.

The vast majority of female gamers play causal games on their phone, and even when they do play on console or PC it's games like the sims.

Nearly all cis men like shooter games.

Pretty much every cis male between 5 and 45 have bonded with other male friends over online shooters.

But it's really hard to find other trans men who like shooters let alone seriously play shooters. I've only met 2 trans guys that can go positive in my nearly 20 year quest to find other trans men to play COD with.

Yet every class I had, every job, every brother of every girlfriend, random guys at parties, dam near every guy has played cod or another shooter and the vast majority can go positive.

Am I the only one that rarely sees trans women even being mentioned in this sub?

I'm non-binary and I'm reasonably feminine but also not as feminine as some trans guys I've come across or that they are complaining about in some ways (I haven't medically transistioned though so they still hate me haha,) but it's still so pathetic to me when they turn it into some weird competition. Especially when they bring up stuff like 'I played video games that aren't for girls.' Who the [BEEP] hasn't played Fallout 3 or something at some point? One time I had a sixth form teacher ask me if I was in the right place and if I was studying fashion design because of my alternative clothing when I was studying a software development course. I'm white and phenotypically female and the class was mostly South Asian with a couple of white guys, a couple of black guys, 2-3 South Asian female students depending on the year. I generally find guys like this to be quite misogynistic (their behaviour contributes to experiences like I had in sixth form,) and no surprises one of those trans guys was gay either - it's a common problem in certain subsets of the gay male community.

Progressive people do often have issues with either men and/or masculinity though but it often comes from negative experiences regarding devaluation of femininity among other things.

Loe says the study is great as it shows a new intraspecies mechanism for the concept of wildlife using a human shield - something that can be common where predators are afraid of humans. Loe says other interspecies human shield relationships have been found. Grizzlies also avoid humans in some areas, so moose hang out near us. Other examples have been found between elk, humans and wolves as well as roe deer, humans and lynx. I find this idea that the old middle class men controlled everything amusing. I am one of these women that absolutely does not want kids. The first major reason being that, no offence at all to those that find it all wonderful and beautiful, the idea of pregnancy and birth utterly mortifies and disgusts me. I'm forced to conclude that pronatalists function much like The Good Place if you've seen that TV show.

I doubt it's a conspiracy in that way though - it's just you're inside the global culture.

Maybe some of these guys should widen their search to include women who are a little older, like 27-34 or even 35. These women will have been out in the world and discovered that being a single "career" woman is not as glamorous and fun as they thought. They will also be facing their biological time clocks, which still creates the urge to procreate in some women.

Although they won't on average be able to have as many kids as women in their early 20's, they could most likely have 3 or more - even several more, and that's a lot more than the nothing-burger many men will get if they focus exclusively on the early-20's women in the woke undergrad-graduate bubble.

Most of the men are waiting too long and aging themselves out. Keep in mind most women are attracted to men who are about 4 years older than themselves, no more. I know men who waited to their mid 30s then failed horribly. I really do not know anyone in that age range dating women younger than 28.

Men are told they can have kids at any age without the small print (if you're very rich or capable of exploitative casual sex and creating lots of single mums but most don't fall into either of those groups.)

A more machivalean approach if you're cute and want a lot of kids is while 20ish to marry a woman in her late 20s to mid 30s especially 30-35 and have kids then in your 40s-50s if you have the money you can try and get a younger woman as by then your kids you had at 20 ish will be mostly grown up and you will statistically already be divorced anyway.

Of course a more common course of action is just having casual relationships, accumulating wealth and then settling down later with a younger woman (how much younger varies. though tbh.) This ends up wasting some women's time so especially in the case of succesful men they are now being accused of all kinds of things for not committing.

Like entire groups of women teaming up on them lol. One woman said "I'm not alone anymore" which was such a great way for the article about that incident to end lol. All through it I noticed a pattern of women who initially assumed this guy wanted more but then realised he didn't and either tried to distance themselves or desperately tried to avoid abandonment (as I said in another post one woman seemed to have BPD symptoms.) Their feelings and experiences varied but when hearing other people discuss things were happy to add on their story because realistically they'd been low-key pissed off and uncomfortable for some time about it.

This group of women accusing the guy of various stuff had finally given her a sense of community. The last woman had serious abandonment issues and in cases like that the tolerance is even lower. That I think along with the woman before and the fact he kept trying to pay these women for therapy and to keep their mouths shut finally was the last straw where as others probably would have just moved on if not for them.

Not very hard either since most of those guys are very machivalean so have skeletons + borderline or criminal behaviour.

But yeah most guys aren't ready to have kids in young adulthood either. The insane idea that you're going to find a hot 20 year old woman who wants kids lol. None of the guys do after all at that age.

Something similar but illegal and messed up is happening with school teachers and their teenage students. Or it's being talked about a lot more in the US. There are lots of stories especially female teachers. Some of them getting pregnant too... Also often women cheating on their husbands who aren't satisfying them instead of the mature thing of getting divorced although at the point you're breaking the law to do it you've sort of lost the plot and were making bad decisions anyway.

This isn't taken very seriously culturally because "where was she when I was younger (tm)" and that's how you have teenage boys paying child support.

I've tried these arguments on other liberal urban women and it seems to have a little traction - it might work better coming from a man though. I picture a constellation of natalist arguments for everyone - have kids to save the planet, promote your ideology, live forever, make more people like yourself, heal your trauma, repent for your sins, detox, etc etc.

Yes this works very well on high status psychopaths and narcissists (it's certainly more influential to me for that reason. I'm not high status though but also not a good person lol though ultimately I think more about how fun and excitable young kids are everything is new and fun to them and teaching them stuff, not so much as teenagers lol,) but not so much others necessarily. I remember a guy who said he wanted kids in uni (unlike many men and his peers,) because its winning from an evo-psych perspective to pass on genes. That was my first interaction I suppose with one of that bubble. He was a nerd with a superiority complex too of course. Just the type lol.

Also kind of metrosexual. I had a crush on him at some point because he was reasonably intelligent and sophisticated and one time I saved him from a spider that freaked him out which is cute. But he was very judgmental and it always rubbed me the wrong way. He also was weirdly trad in some ways and kept insisting I should wear more dresses and seemed miffed that I wanted to pay when we went out to eat or that he was trying to walk close to the road.

I think he had this idea of himself as this romantic gentleman and he wanted to be in a relationship in general so that he could play the role more than attraction to specific people.

At the time I didn't realise he and others I met then would be of relevance psychologically as a microcosm of cultural trends I see on a large scale and within elite tech bro cultures.

Someone posted a link to a twitch livestream with Will Wright (The Sims designer) and in the second half of the stream they start playing The Sims 2 with him still on stream which is cool but he left the stream before they went to the Curious household. I don't think he probably remembers that much of the development etc of the game now because it's been like 2 decades and he also wasn't directly involved with The Sims 2, but would have been curious (I didn't do that on purpose but I've just realised yes lol,) about that. They're one of my favourite Sims families as well.

I think he was more familiar with Pleasantview (where they went first,) since the storyline of that game is a sequel to The Sims and includes a bunch of Sims from the first game as well. He also talked about that a bunch back when The Sims 2 came out playing demos of the game.

It's interesting at one point he talked about listening to people describe themselves playing and switching between talking about the Sim as another person and as themself like 'I did this' vs 'they/he/she did that' which is something I noticed before I do in my videos I think. I was thinking about something like that before anyway. I also wonder if he or someone else brought that up before in some interview because I have a vague memory. Maybe Rod Humble since I was reading interviews with him a while ago I dunno. (Since he was working on a new simulation game as well that got scrapped unfortunately. Although I was more interested in paralives personally.)

But yeah because you're kind of playing God and so often view them as seperate from yourself, but then you slip in and out of unconciously identifying with different Sims it's interesting. And I did notice that since I make videos lol.

I think it would be really cool to do something like that with devs who worked on the game more. I know one former dev tweeted a bunch of stuff on twitter a while back about development based stuff but then EA told them to stop LOL. Shut up EA. You ruin everything.

I have a bunch of questions about some stuff. You can find a lot of stuff that was cut from the game in the game object files still and there are some really weird things that I just don't get technically. Like why they did certain things in the way they did and why some things (not related to stuff you will find in regular gameplay,) occur that I'm curious about. But most people who have access to interview devs aren't hardcore fans who have interest or necessarily knowledge about the questions I want answers to lol (plus Will Wright wasn't that involved anyway and most less famous devs wouldn't be interviewed.) Some things have been explained by other players with technical knowledge but still a lot of mysteries.

I could like find people on social media and ask them but it seems that EA would have issues with some things potentially based on what happened on twitter (that might be because one tweet involved him talking about people doing drugs in the parking lot or something though it's hard to say what part they took issue with LOL.) I wouldn't want to ask them to do some streaming thing because I'm not big enough for that really (I have thousands of subscribers but I feel like you have to be in the millions range and at minimum prob hundreds of thousands maybe to do that. I never really see channels smaller than that do interviews lol) and too much social anxiety for live streaming and that kind of thing. Have on experience with that I just make videos.

I'm also really interested in the demo versions that were around too but tragically never leaked unlike a lot of older games. Like there are several ps1 Spyro demos/unfinished versions of the game floating around online.

Yes. Elon wasn't one of the original 3. He was a VC investor near enoigh to the start to grudgingly be considered a "founding member" and became chairman pretty early on. He was behind the firing of Martin Eberhard.

It wasn't necessarily unjustified. Eberhard had good intentions, but wasn't heading in the right direction.

It should also be noted that Elon didn't immediately replace him, and actually had to be convinced to take on the position.

If you did more research, you would also know that Elon admires Edison way more than Tesla. In fact he's indifferent about Tesla. His reasoning is that invention is easy, but taking an invention and making it mass-market is the impressive part.

The only reason the company is named Tesla is because the motors they used were invented by Tesla.

Elon Musk is very much trying to follow Edison's footsteps. All of this is public knowledge. He even says this in his interviews.

Edison did way more good for the world than Tesla ever did due to his abilities to mass produce an invented technology. And now Elon is doing the same with EVs. Tesla (the company) didn't invent anything new. Their invention is coming up with a way to mass produce long range EVs. A task no one in the world has done before.

The Gervais Principle is this:

The Sociopaths enter and exit organizations at will, at any stage, and do whatever it takes to come out on top. They do have a loyalty to individual people, and a commitment to finding fulfillment through work when they can, and coasting when they cannot.

The Clueless are the ones who lack the competence to circulate freely through the economy (unlike Sociopaths and Losers), and build up a perverse sense of loyalty to the firm, even when events make it abundantly clear that the firm is not loyal to them. To sustain themselves, they must be capable of fashioning elaborate delusions based on idealized notions of the firm -- the perfectly pathological entities we mentioned. Unless squeezed out by forces they cannot resist, they hang on as long as possible, long after both Sociopaths and Losers have left (in Douglas Adams' vicious history of our planet, humanity was founded by a spaceship full of the Clueless, sent here by scheming Sociopaths). When cast adrift in the open ocean, they are the ones most likely to be utterly destroyed.

The future Sociopath must be an under-performer at the bottom. Like the average Loser, he recognizes that the bargain is a really bad one. Unlike the risk-averse loser though, he does not try to make the best of a bad situation by doing enough to get by. He has no intention of just getting by. He very quickly figures out -- through experiments and fast failures -- that the Loser game is not worth becoming good at. So Ryan floats directly to the top, where he does what is expected of him -- lead a bold strategic gamble by building an online sales channel operation. As with any big strategic move, the operation has its risks, and fails. And here we find that Ryan is still not quite experienced enough as a sociopath. He foolishly goes the Enron route, attempting to cook the books to avoid failure, and is found out and arrested. A true master Sociopath like David Wallace would instead have spotted the impending failure, promoted a Michael to take over (who would obviously be so gratified at being given a new white-elephant title that he would not have seen disaster looming), and have him take the blame for the inevitable failure. Completely legal and efficient.

In last week's Abbott Elementary episode "Volunteers," the highly anticipated introduction of the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia characters to the Abbott universe, Dennis Reynolds ducked out of the storyline in one of the earliest scenes because he didn’t consent to being filmed -- at least, not by ABC cameras.

Despite the nervousness of both Abbott Elementary fans and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia stans leading up to the first part of the crosstown comedy crossover, critics and audiences agreed that "Volunteers" was a spectacularly successful merging of two very different Philadelphian sitcoms with two very different tones. Thankfully for both sides of the sitcom collaboration, the Paddy's Pub Gang managed to spend an entire week at an elementary school without committing any heinous crimes (that we know of) and the broadcast TV censors of ABC didn't dull the edge of the Always Sunny assholes one bit.

I wouldn't say spectacular but considering the limitations (time wise and rating wise,) it wasn't too bad.

Lol I just re-watched this video and realised there's some guy whose comment is in this who thinks that Naruto and Sasuke shipping isn't a thing because he used them to compare to the other ship she's talking about. It's occurred to me before when people treat it like a novel thing. Though obviously a lot of it is also romance and porn and a way of trying to fix unpleasant characters and things like that.

There have been several Spyro fan games that have been shut down where people make new games using elements of the early spyro games like this one. I'm not sure if this is the same one I was looking at before.



I think this managed to reach completion which is cool (edit: not quite but hasn't been shut down yet,) because they often shut down these prijects with cease and desist notices and because of the boatman which was planned in an earlier version of the first Spyro Ps1 game and you can see it in some old game magazine photos but the demo with that mechanic in never leaked but they've recreated that for this fanfare.

They use the assets of the original games to do this which is part of the appeal. But of course its copyright and these limitations are part of the problem with capitalism.

I believe the company Sky attempted to sue the developers of No Man's Sky for using the fucking word Sky in the name of their video game.

Sean Murray said his studio had endured "years of secret stupid legal nonsense" after the broadcaster Sky said the game's title infringed its trademark.

"We finally settled with Sky (they own the word sky). We can call our game No Man's Sky,"*he tweeted.

The game was expected in June, but has been delayed until August.

Hello Games has not revealed whether it paid Sky to settle the lawsuit.

This made me more interested in Discworld than anyone or anything else ever has.

I've only read Equal Rites and part of a couple of other books including The Colour of Magic but his writing is great. Really clever humour and also very animistic somehow (all kinds of objects kind of have personalities) It also inspired the writing of Runescape. Which I think is, despite how grindy the game can be, one of the reasons that mmo stuck around when most failed. That and they were one of the first mmos which helps (sometimes.)

We're taught that traditionally masculine men are the enemies of feminism, but as the kind of men who have supported real women and the kind who have supported transvestites in the Toilet Wars shows - I'd bet on a geek being more misogynistic than a jock any day.

This is a dumb takeaway from this (even ignoring how high school the entire culture is.) Like you'd bet on Steven Crowder and Andrew Tate lol? They come in different flavours equally as unpleasant.

Then again she's a transphobe lol so you know. These are the kind of people who think ('real') men in the US with guns should go into the women's toilets. Because that will help.

Something that was really fascinating was reading some tweets during a binge session scrolling of 'right wing men freak out about liberal white women' which is always entertaining to me but I came across these tweets where this guy was like 'I don't even see liberal white men as white' I was fascinated. He obviously thinks white liberal women are white, at least the attractive ones LOL.

This isn't directly related but seems to be tangentially related and reveals a certain amount of psychological projection since white right wing men envy sexist right wing minority men (note that this discussion below happened because a blond white woman had kids with a famous black guy):

I view these guys as like a hostile alien species cause of the way they write, and this quote below seems to be the consensus of women who interract with those guys (this in response to some guy claiming that white liberal women from his wife's high school - like people she no longer knew but knew back in high school - coerced her into voting democrat. The original tweet was actaully kind of funny because he worded it like 'my white wife' not his wife his white wife):

There's another video I was looking for but can't find it on YouTube now where he says this with more emphasis but this is an idea he brought up several times on stage and in interviews several years ago and it's an idea that's widely adopted by right wing men.

Jordan Peterson flip flops between denying patriarchy exists and saying it's a good thing and most right wing people won't deny it exists. Their position is that left wing women (and other non-conforming people,) are abberations that destabalise patriarchy and that patiarchy is essential for civilisation. They vary between arguing this is caused by genetic mutations or social forces and usually believe it's a mix of both.

Feminist women don't seem to have an unconcious wish for 'brutal male domination' they might have an unconcious wish for 'brutal female domination.' (But most people don't identify strongly as feminists or like using the label - he seems to equate left wing women with feminists so I will do so as well.) Perhaps this survey data reflects that at least in online samples or perhaps not (as far right women are into male domination sexually. I don't know why it's lib left vs authoritarian right though but with the gender stuff most of it's kind of around the centre of lib vs authoritarian anyway here):

I would actually say the 'unconcious desire for male submission' is more unconcious but prevalant than the one for female domination though. It's constantly denied/ignored/explained away even by people consuming certain material.

Something that tickles me about this diagram in a dark way is that the right are so obsessed with race that even though for women the male vs female domination thing is almost the kink of choice for the far right vs far left raceplay still beats it on the far right side lmfao.

Also technically none of these guys are really masculine. Real masculine guys in the sense that a lot of people are looking for don't really exist it's mythologised and people have complained for at least well over a hundred years (and that's not the problem.)
