I didn't actually notice till I read that I think it's a recent change though, but that's going to be really annoying. I actually have links on one of my tumblr accounts. Also I'll miss the layout I had on this one + the music player though I think that had stopped working already anyway. Most of the internet doesn't allow you to customise anything now and it's really annoying and yeah that was an advantage to tumblr that the rest of the internet had most removed.

Throbbing Gristle and Coil are probably the only bands (besides horror movie soundtracks,) who have made music that's actually creepy/disturbing to me. Most of what people think is weird/creepy etc is just fun and edgy and angry. And some of it creates that kind of morbid fascination sensation where it's like there's something mysterious and you want to know more.

The studio recording is good too though.



It doesn't have the same impact now but I remember around the time I first heard Hamburger Lady I woke up one morning and heard like a similar kind of creepy noise to the sound at the beginning. Maybe I just imagined it but it really freaked me out lol. I guess it's kind of that distant sound trains sometimes make too which you do hear here sometimes and it is creepy, but I don't think that's what the sound was at the time.

That being said I haven't listened to most of Throbbing Gristle's music it's very experimental so hard to get into. Also Slugbait is really messed up lol.

If you dig down deeper and they have a concrete answer it's almost always bigotry but there's a lot of frustratingly vague discourse that seems enamoured with a certain heroic/narcissistic narrative too. Nobody seems to care about where desires come from. Shouldn't there be a whole science trying to understand it? Desires are why we do anything at all. I know Buddhism talks about how suffering comes from desire, but it doesn't really say what causes desires. Whether we control our desires or not is at the heart of whether we have free will or not. It's hard to imagine how we're free if our desires are outside of our control. What even is a desire? Is it just a mental state caused by the brain? The wiki page on desire wasn't helpful. It says it's a propositional attitude, but then we can ask what causes a person to have a certain attitude over another? I don't think anybody knows. But again, desires are so important to human experience - how is it not known?

Thinking about it more, it does seem that desire is tied to pleasure or perceived pleasurable experiences/states of affairs. But it also seems possible for someone to desire the unpleasurable, like entering a war for example. They know they might die or be injured, but they still desire to fight. But then we can ask what causes pleasure? There seems to be evidence that the brain/dopamine causes the experience of pleasure, but why? Why is a physical state of the brain producing a "what it feels like" to have pleasure? This goes right into the hard problem of consciousness. I don't think anybody knows.

Thinking about this more, I'm not so certain that desire necessarily is tied to pleasure. For example, sexual desires are just... there. You just have the desire. There might be pleasure associated with it if you act on it, but the desire itself stands on it's own. You can even have a desire and not want to act on it, so it's not because of pleasure.

It makes you think about how religions could easily have been started as superstitions involving a small number of people and they just grew because people didn't know any better. I'm glad that I was exposed to philosophy and skepticism as it helped me change my beliefs (I used to believe some weird stuff. lol ). I think skepticism and fallibilism are the correct epistemological positions. I have no problem with any of my beliefs being false. I'm completely open to being wrong.

It's also crazy to think about how science and superstition are part of the same world. So much progress has been made toward truth in the very same world that will produce the strangest beliefs.

With everything going on in the rental market here rn, feeling glad I am out of me.

Sure, my situation as a leaseholder is not ideal. But I am in a much safer place accomadation wise. Cannot be told to leave because the landlord wants to raise the rent. And I'm not in a queue of 20 people trying to get a 1 bed.

Also the feeling of having something permanent is a good feeling.
